How can we help?
Questions, a number that looks wrong, or an idea? Most answers are below. If not, email us and a real person will reply.
Counting your days
Why don't the days I leave and return count as days abroad?
Because USCIS counts them as days in the US: “USCIS will count the day that an applicant departs from the United States and the day he or she returns as days of physical presence” (Policy Manual, Vol. 12, Part D, Ch. 4). A trip from June 1 to June 10 is 8 days abroad.
What do “Review”, “Important” and “Serious” mean?
Review is a trip of 150–180 days, close to the 6-month line. Nothing moves, but it's worth checking the dates.
Important is 181–364 days. USCIS presumes a break in continuous residence unless you can show otherwise.
Serious is 1 year or more. That breaks continuous residence and moves your filing date.
Tap any flagged trip in the app for what it means, what it doesn't mean and what to do next.
Is the filing date guaranteed?
No. It's an estimate from what you entered. Naturalize can't check good moral character, English and civics, or whether a presumption has been rebutted. Check uscis.gov or talk to an immigration attorney before you file.
How is my filing date worked out?
It's the latest of everything that applies to you: your anniversary less 90 days, 3 months in your state, your marriage dates on the 3-year route, the wait after an absence of a year or more, and the date you reach 913 days (or 548) in the US. Tap How we count on the Progress screen to see each one and which sets your date.
Can travelling across time zones change my count?
No. Naturalize stores plain calendar dates with no time or time zone, so a red-eye flight or a phone that changes time zone can never shift a result.
A number looks wrong. What should I send?
Email hello@ozar.io with the trip dates involved and the number you expected. No other personal details are needed. The app version is in Settings › About.
Your N-400 table
Why isn't my day trip on the N-400 list?
Form N-400 Part 8 says not to include day trips completed within 24 hours. If you came back the next calendar day and aren't sure how long you were away, Naturalize keeps the trip on the list to be safe.
What happens if I have more than six trips?
Part 8 has room for six. Naturalize puts the six most recent on the form and moves the rest onto Part 14, Additional Information, in the format the form asks for.
How do I get the table into the online N-400?
The Records tab has a Copy-Ready List you can paste row by row into the online N-400, and a PDF with Part 8, the Part 14 continuation and a personal worksheet.
Your record
How do I move my record to a new iPhone?
Your record moves with a normal iPhone backup and restore. You can also export a backup from Settings › Your Data › Export Backup and on the new iPhone, tap Restore from a Backup on the first screen (or later, Settings › Your Data › Restore from Backup).
Can you recover my trips if I lose them?
Unfortunately not. Your record never leaves your iPhone, so we don't have a copy. Exporting a backup now and then is the best protection.
How do I lock the app?
Turn on the Face ID or passcode lock in Settings. Naturalize also hides its screen in the app switcher. That's on by default, and you can change it in Settings › Hide in app switcher.
How do I delete everything?
Settings › Your Data › Delete All Data. You'll be offered a backup first. Deleting the app also removes everything it stored.
